To become a queen. After the death of King George VI. Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary ascended the throne on February 6, 1952 at the age of 25. The coronation of the newly minted Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 2 of the following year.
Historic visit. On May 18, 1965, Elizabeth arrived in Bonn for the first state visit of a British monarch to Germany in more than 50 years. The trip formally sealed the reconciliation between the two nations after the world wars.
First grandchild. In 1977, the Queen stepped into the role of grandmother for the first time after Princess Anne gave birth to her son Peter. Elizabeth's four children gave her a total of eight grandchildren, followed by several great-grandchildren.

A trip to Ireland. In May 2011, the Queen visited the Republic of Ireland, which has had a troubled relationship with the British monarchy for centuries. The trip, full of powerful symbols of reconciliation, is considered one of the most politically demanding trips of Elizabeth's reign.
Breaking the record. From 17:30 UK time on 9 September 2015, Elizabeth II. she became the longest-reigning British monarch, surpassing Queen Victoria, her great-great-grandmother. Elizabeth was 89 years old at the time and reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and about 30 minutes.
Celebration of 70 years of marriage. On 20 November 2017, the Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their 70th anniversary, making them the longest married couple in royal history. The two married in 1947, when the country and the world were still recovering from the atrocities of World War II.
Loss of husband. In 2021, Queen Elizabeth II. she said goodbye to Prince Philip, who died on April 9. The image of the Queen grieving alone at a funeral amid coronavirus restrictions struck a chord with viewers at home after the event.
