Imagine if you opened a Cheerios box this morning and received a note from General Mills: A pending law regarding genetically modified corn can make your favorite breakfast unavailable or unavailable.
That would sound strange and unacceptable, wouldn't it?
That's what app companies like Uber, Lyft, DoorDash and Instacart do in California. Citizens who open such apps see text messages or receive e-mails pressing corporate status through state employment law.
It is not uncommon for companies to demand that their customers become aware of the laws that affect their operations and to ask people to take action. But there is a pattern for young companies - Uber in particular - to take the initiative to appeal more.
The simple act of being a customer now makes people the victims of an innocuous corporate lawyer.
This is because Uber, Lyft, Instacart and other companies that hire many contractors have been fighting a law passed in California that would force them to re-employ at least one million employees in the province.
